We are currently seeking the right candidate for the position of:
2nd Engineer
The 2nd Engineer will be in charge of resolving and preventing technical issues while communicating properly with other workers and clients in the organization. The 2nd Engineer will be part of a team that ensures that all company equipment are working correctly and are up to standards. S/he will be required to strictly follow the Company’s safety standards and regulations, and lead the way in preventing accidents in the workplace.
Essential Job Requirements
Principle accountabilities of the 2nd Engineer:
- Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all equipment and systems on the Vessel and all other assets
- Maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment (primarily diesel powered), including marine vessels, delivery trucks, generators
- Perform emergency repairs of all equipment as required (may include afterhours work)
- Develop and monitor maintenance schedules, inspection schedules and audit schedules
- Ensure that all Vessel equipment is in compliance with required standards or guidelines
- Manage supply of maintenance and repair parts to ensure always on hand
- Liaise with auditors & contractors to ensure completion of overhauls, slipping and other major works
- Train/advise team members so that they understand & perform routine maintenance and inspection adequately
- Adhere to safety guidelines for proper handling of vessels and equipment
- Comply with all Vital policies & procedures, documentation & reporting requirements, and safety management & security systems
- Report as required to line manager(s)
- Understand handling characteristics of the vessel (maneuvering, docking, anchoring, etc.) as well as the operation of critical systems (electronic navigation aids, steering, de-watering, safety apparatus, etc.)
- Provide training and orientation to new crew members and ensure the safety of unqualified team members during loading, unloading and other vessel operations
- Participate in emergency response and/or rescue team as required and perform medical duties as per training
- Assist with all operations as needed or as assigned by manager
- Perform other relevant duties as assigned by manager
S/he is to ensure that all tasks performed are conducted in a safe manner and in accordance with the company’s operating procedure guideline.
Knowledge & Experience
We are seeking individuals with:
Essential:
- FSM citizenship
- Excellent command of English
- Appropriate FSM Ships Engineer Certification or equivalent
- Diesel mechanic certification or equivalent
- First aid/CPR
- Basic safety training
- Five years or more of relevant experience as engineering and/or maintenance mechanic
- Must pass pre-employment medical, drug screen, reference checks and background check.
- Must have sufficiently acute hearing, eyesight and depth perception to meet the demands of at-sea service.
Desirable:
- Emergency Response Certification
- Emergency Evacuation Certification
- Electrical Engineering Certification
- Mechanical Engineering Certification
- Diesel Mechanic Certification/License
